I'm sure knowledge of our flag is something which is handed down (or not handed down...) from one generation to the next. It just seems a pity that it seems to happen so rarely.

I had been thinking about Scotland myself, and wondering what would happen to the flag if they become independent. If they did change it, the blue would have to go, presumably, along with the diagonal white cross. I think it would look very odd. I hope they keep it the way it is!Sophie Keates-Gazeyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07756291409712138814noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-744392407902388076.post-626536322888843622012-05-31T16:23:38.843+01:002012-05-31T16:23:38.843+01:00Hello Elizabeth! I'm glad you enjoyed the post.

Yes, the flag is something of a curiosity, and it's no wonder so few people realise there is a right way and a wrong way to hang it: you either pick that bit of information up from somewhere or you don't - they certainly never taught us about it in school! I hope your friends will be very impressed with your new snippet of trivia!Sophie Keates-Gazeyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07756291409712138814noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-744392407902388076.post-28353932681655872162012-05-31T16:19:08.249+01:002012-05-31T16:19:08.249+01:00Hello Jane and Lance! How lovely to see you! I'...Hello Jane and Lance! How lovely to see you! I'm touched to think you've missed me. Yes, I'm afraid the blog has been sadly neglected just lately. Ironically, this is because I have been busy writing, but writing something which is going to take a while before it sees the light of day. I do plan on trying to blog a bit more often if I can, though. Thank you for bearing with me!

I'm sure some people would argue that you'll be better off out of the country for the coming weekend! I'm not a raving monarchist myself, but I do like and respect the Queen, and feel that she is an excellent symbol for our nation. And I plan on watching some of the weekend's events on the television.

This afternoon I brought home the ingredients for our own Jubilee tea, as follows: strawberries, jam sugar, clotted cream. My plan is for home-made scones with home-made jam and clotted cream. Although I do bake, I haven't made scones for about 20 years, and I've never made jam at all. We shall see. I may even report back.

Whatever you're doing this weekend, I do hope it's a good one for you.

Once again, it's wonderful to see you here; I'll try to get into the habit of blogging - and visiting your own beautiful blog - more often from now on!Sophie Keates-Gazeyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07756291409712138814noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-744392407902388076.post-49496538794568210532012-05-30T19:58:46.154+01:002012-05-30T19:58:46.154+01:00My Grand dad always noticed when the flag was inco...My Grand dad always noticed when the flag was incorrectly hung and it is for this reason I am aware, but I would not have been otherwise. I wonder how the flag will look if Scotland decide to leave the union?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15750612346248811323noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-744392407902388076.post-59838948804235378042012-05-30T18:54:22.665+01:002012-05-30T18:54:22.665+01:00How fascinating. I'm so glad that I now know something they don't ;) Great post, Sophie!Elizabeth Rose Stantonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05725663688810441280noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-744392407902388076.post-85836521693417144072012-05-30T18:39:05.223+01:002012-05-30T18:39:05.223+01:00Hello Sophie:

As indeed we have managed to be for every Royal Event, Royal Marriage, Royal Jubilee, Royal Birth, Royal Divorce, Royal Death and anything remotely regal in the last 10 years. But, we are no party poopers and we wish you the sunniest of blue skies, pints of English tea, heaps of cucumber sandwiches and, of course, lots and lots of cake!!

We were delighted to see this post from you. We have missed you!Jane and Lance Hattatthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16831890261259302647noreply@blogger.com
